About Puja
Māsa Śivarātri is a sacred observance dedicated to Lord Shiva, occurring every month and revered for its power to dissolve fear, suffering, and karmic afflictions. On this auspicious day, Śiva Abhiṣekam and Mahāmṛtyuñjaya Hōmam will be performed at the holy kṣetra of Srisailam, the abode of Sri Mallikārjuna Jyotirlinga, where Lord Shiva manifests as the supreme protector and liberator.
This powerful combination of Abhiṣekam and Hōmam is especially prescribed for those facing health concerns, chronic fear, sudden obstacles, mental distress, or longevity-related afflictions. Māsa Śivarātri greatly amplifies the fruits of Shiva worship, making it an ideal day to seek protection, healing, and inner strength.
Ritual Sequence and Spiritual Significance:
The puja begins with Sankalpam, taken in the devotee’s name and gotra, praying for freedom from fear, relief from illness, longevity, mental peace, and removal of known and unknown dangers. This is followed by the sacred Śiva Abhiṣekam, where Lord Mallikārjuna is bathed with holy substances while Vedic Rudra mantras are chanted, invoking Shiva’s compassionate and protective aspect.
This is followed by the powerful Mahāmṛtyuñjaya Hōmam, where the revered Mahāmṛtyuñjaya mantra is offered into the consecrated fire, seeking victory over untimely death, protection from accidents and calamities, and restoration of health and vitality.
The Vedas proclaim the power of this mantra:
“त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ॥”
— A prayer to Lord Shiva for liberation from death-bound fears and bestowal of immortality and well-being.
